Phosphoenix

Phosphoenix is a Dutch med‑tech spin-off (from the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience) developing a brain prosthesis for vision restoration in people who are blind due to non-functional retina or optic nerve.

Their technology uses high-density, ultra‑flexible electrode probes implanted in brain areas for visual perception, enabling artificial stimulation of nerve cells and generation of simple images perceived as “vision”. They aim to restore functional vision so that users can identify objects and navigate independently, potentially greatly improving autonomy and quality of life.
